messages.yml
File and Validation
Section titled “File and Validation”Edit plugins/PixelPainter/messages.yml, then run /pp reload. The loader merges bundled defaults with configured overrides and validates every configured value as text with strict MiniMessage syntax.
Missing keys use the bundled template. Unknown string keys can be stored, but have no effect unless a renderer asks for them. A non-text value or malformed template rejects the reload; the previous messages stay active.
Use quoted YAML strings and balanced MiniMessage tags. Put line breaks inside a message with <newline>.
Literal and Rich Placeholders
Section titled “Literal and Rich Placeholders”Dynamic strings are supplied as unparsed placeholders, so a source name or error value cannot inject new formatting. Rich placeholders contain Adventure components supplied by the renderer.
| Placeholder | Typical use |
|---|---|
<image> | Recorded or requested source name |
<id> | Recovery journal ID |
<blocks> | Applied, selected or recorded block count, depending on the message |
<conflicts> | Preserved later edits |
<width>, <height> | Output blocks or original source pixels according to context |
<skipped> | Transparent output positions in an estimate |
<percent> | Current stage percentage |
<page>, <pages> | Page navigation |
<material>, <count> | Material rows or additional material-type count |
<usage> | Command syntax after an argument-count error |
<reason> | Reload validation failure |
<world>, <origin> | Journal hover details |
<stage> | Rich configured stage label |
<command>, <description> | Rich help content |
<previous>, <next> | Rich page-navigation controls |
Keep the placeholders used by a template when translating it. Counts are contextual: the completion template reports applied writes, while a history row describes journal entries.
Common Feedback
Section titled “Common Feedback”prefix: '<#8BD5CA>PixelPainter</#8BD5CA><#606A7B>:</#606A7B> 'preparing: '<#B8C2D4>Preparing your request...</#B8C2D4>'reloaded: '<#91B78A>Settings, messages and palette reloaded.</#91B78A>'error-permission: '<#FF5555>You do not have permission to use this command.</#FF5555>'Messages.send prepends prefix. Panel headings and rows are rendered separately, so changing prefix does not rebrand every card automatically.
Operation templates include queued, completed, cancelled, undo-started, undone, undo-conflicts, nothing-changed and operation-failed. Source feedback includes downloaded, deleted and specs.
Panels and Navigation
Section titled “Panels and Navigation”Each help, source, history, materials or estimate panel has configured titles, descriptions, rows and footers. The default presentation uses mint accents, slate body text and cyan controls; panel titles are bold.
help-title: '<#DCE3EE>Pixel Painter Commands</#DCE3EE>'help-row: ' <#606A7B>•</#606A7B> <command> <#606A7B>·</#606A7B> <#B8C2D4><description></#B8C2D4>'help-footer: '<#A8B8C9>Hover for details. Click to fill in a command.</#A8B8C9>'Click behavior is attached by code. Help, image and history rows suggest commands; page buttons run navigation commands. Replacing the visible label does not change the command argument contract or grant extra permissions.
The renderer displays eight entries per page. Help hover details are wrapped for readability. These layout limits are implementation settings, not YAML keys.
Help Text and Progress
Section titled “Help Text and Progress”help-<action> contains a short row description. detail-<action> contains the longer explanation shown on hover. Actions include create, preview, undo, cancel, list, specs, history, materials, download, delete, reload and help.
progress combines the current source, stage and percentage. Stage keys are stage-chunks, stage-scan, stage-save, stage-build and stage-undo. These labels change wording; they do not alter how work is scheduled.
Keep Error Meaning Accurate
Section titled “Keep Error Meaning Accurate”The error group covers permissions, argument syntax, source validation, dimensions, trusted hosts, worker saturation, world/bounds checks, block entities, overlapping journals and reload failures.
When customizing messages, preserve the distinction between cancellation and restoration, source-file deletion and painting removal, and rejected reloads versus successful publication. A message should not claim a world/file mutation that the operation did not perform.
